Gavan is a chrome silhouette above everything else, so the treatment a figure gives that armour decides whether it works.

• The Alphamax figure sculpts the Combat Suit as it appears on screen, with the visor, the chest crest and the segmented plating that reads as metal rather than as painted plastic.

Why Collectors Love It

Space Sheriff Gavan arrived in 1982 and changed what a Japanese hero show looked like. The Combat Suit was formed in a fraction of a second by particles fired from his ship rather than pulled on as a costume. The chrome finish that came with it gave tokusatsu a new visual language. Toei followed it with Sharivan and Shaider, then with the wider Metal Hero line that ran on into the late 1990s. For collectors, Gavan is the origin point: the design every later chrome hero answers to, from a series whose influence outran its own broadcast.
