When Saban Entertainment launched Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in 1993, it combined new American footage with battle scenes from Japan's Super Sentai series. Teams of colour-coded heroes morphed into armoured champions, summoned towering Zords and combined them into mighty Megazords to face monsters of the week. The formula was an instant sensation with 90s children and has never really stopped, spanning dozens of seasons, films and toylines. The franchise is now owned by Hasbro and the generation that grew up shouting the morphing call is precisely the generation now filling display cabinets with high-end versions of the machines they once begged for.
