Planet-X
Planet-X is a Hong Kong sofubi studio founded in 2016 by Joseph Tang, working in the Japanese soft vinyl format that has carried kaiju and hero figures since the 1960s. Its Ultraman pieces are made under official licence from Tsuburaya Productions, so these are approved figures rather than homages. The range follows the sofubi tradition closely: hollow vinyl bodies, bold sculpted silhouettes and finishes chosen to make the figure a display object rather than a screen replica. Ultraman Taro, the 1973 hero whose Ultra Dynamite finishing move gives several pieces their pose, appears in multiple finishes.

Ultraman Taro appears across a spread of finishes: a debut colourway following the character as first seen on screen, an orange gold glitter Ultra Dynamite version, a silver chrome version and a gold chrome Ultra Dynamite pose version. Taken together they show what sofubi does best, running related sculpts through paint, plating then glitter until each finish reads as its own piece. JACK in the Marvel Comics version is a different proposition entirely: in Marvel's Ultraman comics Jack is not an Ultra but a man-made mecha built by MAT, assembled from vehicles that combine into a giant defender.
Why Collectors Rate Them
Sofubi is a collector's format rather than an action figure format. The appeal sits in the material and the finish: light hollow vinyl, clean lines and paint that catches light in ways a standard figure cannot. Chrome plating and glitter suspension are difficult to photograph and difficult to forget once they are on a shelf. Because the Taro pieces pair variant colourways with different poses, they also collect well as a group, giving a single character a row of its own.
