Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah: Yuji Sakai Poster Version Statue Preview
Written by Zero Variant · Published
Noriyoshi Ohrai painted the poster for the 1991 film Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. Yuji Sakai sculpted a poster-style unpainted kit of the two monsters, first released in 1997.
The upcoming 44 cm pre-painted statue is its own release: Vol. 2 in the Yuji Sakai Best Works Selection, part of the Real Master Collection made by Plex and sold by X-Plus. This preorder is the standard edition, without LED lighting. A separate edition adds LED lighting.

From poster to statue
The statue takes its composition from Ohrai's poster, with King Ghidorah wrapped around Godzilla's whole body and its wings spread wide across the scene. Rather than copying the flat artwork, Sakai rebuilt the image as a sculpture to be viewed from all 360 degrees.
From the front, King Ghidorah's three heads frame Godzilla's open mouth.

The paint and the base
Sakai painted the prototype shown in these images. The display base carries a plaque with the title and series number.
